Polish Traces in Amsterdam

Amsterdam and Poland have more in common than meets the eye. Did you know that many buildings in Amsterdam are built on wooden trunks that came from Poland? Amsterdam and Poland share a long history that started with trade relations some 700 years ago.

As a multicultural city in which new population groups settled both now and in the past, Amsterdam has many visible traces of Polish immigrants. We hope to make Poland’s contribution better known by highlighting little-discussed historical facts. Migration is timeless and its traces are part of the collective memory. It is seen as an integral part of today’s society.
