APFF 2026: Andrzej Wajda

The 5th edition of the Amsterdam Polish Film Festival is dedicated to Andrzej Wajda, an outstanding Polish director and an Oscar winner in 2000 for his lifetime achievement.

By presenting some of his phenomenal work we join the celebration of Wajda’s Year, marking 100th anniversary of his birth and 10th of him passing away. While deeply rooted in Polish culture his films demonstrate that national stories could address universal questions and influence filmmakers worldwide until today.

This year’s extended festival programme continues into a second weekend. On 1 November 2026, we invite you to a special showcase of documentary films by emerging filmmakers from the Wajda School, reflecting the enduring influence of Andrzej Wajda’s artistic vision and cinematic legacy.

The festival is accompanied by an exhibition of posters created for Andrzej Wajda’s films, featuring works by some of Poland’s most celebrated graphic artists (from the collection of the Museum of Cinematography in Łódź). The exhibition will be on view at De Balie from 2 October to 2 November 2026.
